These are not my trees. I was walking on a street new to me (though in a Vancouver neighbourhood where I do know some cherry trees) and was enjoying so many beautiful trees in the front yards. I asked the homeowner here if I could photograph these trees that appeared to be draped over the roof to the front porch. His wife the gardener was kind enough to check the label and send me the name along with permission to post the photos. And she has signed up to be a cherry scout! What a great day! About the tree, she wrote "I have help pruning them every year to maintain the shape I want and they’re quite vigorous (I thought we were buying a “small tree”)". The http://botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/learn/vancouver-trees-app/ says 'Seiryu' eventually grow to a height of 7m.
Here is a large 'Seiryu' at Westonbirt, photographed May 17 2024. It is approximately 8 metres (26 feet) high and much wider than that. The whole tree has a very pleasing visual effect, the individual clumps of foliage seem to float like clouds.
Thanks, @maf. I wasn't trying to break the rules! I searched and browsed and did not find this thread, was wondering why there was not one. I'm happy to have my photos here among its ilk.
Whenever it rains really hard like it has the past 12 hours or so, my lovely Acer palmatum 'Seiryu' begins to look like a weeping tree. It's always beautiful but the weeping effect is very special.
