Acer palmatum 'Reticulatum Como'. Another one that doesn't seem to be mentioned in the usual books. Sounds like it might be Italian in origin, maybe alex knows more? Photagraphed 29/4/2009, Westonbirt.
hi Maf i have one, mine is by www.esveld.nl this pics date is april 2009 ,at this moment no more info about selection only one Como is the name of one italian city !
The new 4th edition of Japanese maples includes this cultivar and mentions it is Australian. Seems my Italian supposition was only about half a world away! The book also draws note to the large size of the leaves and the illegitimacy of the latinized cultivar name.
ok i'm ready for correct reply about the name Como..in the latin dictionary exist the word Como is one declination of Comun,i agree the name is illegitimacy of course Como is one Italian word too...sorry for delate in reply but is not easy question!
Love the look of this cultivar as I do my Reticulatum and my Reticulatum Purple, so ordered one today. Will evaluate over the coming years and update the forum accordingly. It's been a long time since the thread had photos and discussion.
9th October 2020 and it arrived, don't laugh when you see the photos, OK go on then, Lol. But these are on here to carry out a photo assessment over the next few years and you have to start somewhere!!
15th April 2021 and the new leaves are starting on my Reticulatum Como, and this after a night of -5° C.
21st May 2021 and although it's been a very slow start this year, my Reticulatum Como is just about underway.
Hi Derek. That is exactly like my ‘odd’ looking Peaches and Cream looks like. I will post some pics of both of them and see what people think. Personally I think it has been mislabelled. Some people say to give it more time through the season to see if it changes, but but I’ve got a funny feeling it might just be Como. Not as I already have peaches and cream and I think Como is a fantastic cultivar.
25th May 2021 and had a few requests for an update on this one, so here it is as close up as my camera will allow.
Another Stephen Roff, actually (he's been getting some good business from me this year already, let me tell you...) Thank you, it's been one of the ones at the top of my 'most wanted' list (thanks in large part to everyone's pictures on this thread!) so I'm really happy to have it at last. Looking forward to watching it grow this year!
Mine was just labelled 'Como' when I bought it. It's beautiful and very different from the others I have :
