No comments yet. Tree grown in full sun and is potted and about 4 years old. All photos from 4/17/05.
First picture taken April 16 Second picture take April 23 Still holding red color very well as of June 1st. Seem to tolerate sun quite well.
My Oregon Sunset is a small round tree with large leaves. This photo was taken May 7 and shows part of its rather refined shape.
That is a typical representation of this culitvar. A source I have shows a similar form with sweeping branches to the ground and it is defined as: 'a broad upright and compact.' Dax
Here is a late spring picture. Fairly heavy shade and beginning to lose the red but nice leaf structure.
I find Oregon Sunset to be a interesting looking small tree. I keep trying to get one certain one from a grow which is huge at 6' tall and 8' wide. This one is about 4' tall and 4' wide. For many people, it is too red/green for their liking. Full sun does make the tree more colorful.
My Oregon Sunset which I got 8 years ago as a young graft. It has been very slow growing but seems to get going now its a year in the ground. It is in full sun for most of the day and so far is handling it fine after two summers of high heat. Last two pictures are from today.
Haha, yes finally yesterday and today we had some thunderstorms, very much needed especially for the lawn but as you mentioned, the maples also appreciate it very much.
My Oregon sunset this spring. It is filling up nicely after two years in the ground and seems to have a more horizontal growing habit. All in all a very nice small tree with great colour all year round. It did not suffer from any dieback as many others have after the hard winter frosts.
I guess it's time to post this fellow since it's now just a stick anymore. Here is my 'Oregon Sunset' on 6/13/21.
The rabbit family got hold to it over last winter. I'm really surprised it bounced back. So not a lot to see with this one.
My Oregon Sunset in full sun putting on some new growth. Even in this dry and hot summer it is holding up well. Picture is from 15th of August when we had our last rain.
