I have created this thread ready for anyone who like me now has this maple on it's way to them. I was not expecting this, but it was an unexpected gift. This cultivar 'Olivia' is now the correct name given by Hippopottering maples from it's previous name of Ukigumo nishiki. Photos to follow shortly.
29th May 2021 and my new Olivia arrived. The variegation is not on all leaves as yet, but looking at the growth, this will happen as they age. It has been planted in a bit more sun than my Ukigumo, but not full sun. I will update the forum over the coming years in it's progress. Photo two shows it planted in front of my Shindeshojo.
25th June 2021 and the leaves are holding onto the variegation quite nicely on my Olivia. It is in a sunnier spot than Ukigumo and seems to be fine.
15th April 2022 and my Olivia is getting going. One of the slower in my collection to get underway, but it's worth the wait.
24th April 2022 and my Olivia is making some progress now. Hope this gives N @D97x7 some idea of the leaf colouring for his new acquisition. As you can see N. I give it plenty of shade, like Ukigumo.
Undecided as to where mine is going to go at the moment D, it's just nestled on the appreciation bench at the moment so I can watch and enjoy it.
And you have rain N ?? That's a good maple day then......your Olivia is looking good for it's first year with you. Being watched over I see...lol.
25th May 2022 and my Olivia is growing quite rapidly now in it's second year with me. Lovely shades of mottled green and white. Quite different to my Ukigumo.
14th June 2022 and I'm posting this as was asked about variegated maples for shade. Well this and Ukigumo are two that love the shade. My Olivia does get a lot of morning sun, doesn't complain so I will leave it where it is.
