Though I've always referred to this cultivar as "NC Red," I'm told by others that the proper name is "Green Thumb North Carolina Red." Whatever the name, this tree leafs out bright red, quickly settling into a bright reddish terra cotta color with some yellow and green margin highlights. It's color is moderately intense, but given the multitude of long lobes, the total package is unusual.
Alex, you're right, they are similar. But at least in my garden, my Villa Taranto has longer and thinner lobes than my NC Red. Also, the NC Red's leaf tone is matte and muted while the Villa Taranto has a shinier and brighter color. They're both nice.
