Acer palmatum 'Miwa'

I just purchased this tiny little tree. It is only a start, but I thought it would be good to have the picture, since there aren't any on the site.

 

One post 5 years ago. Well I've gotten my hands on this one now. I'll try my best to keep it utd.

Right now. It's like none other I have.

 

That looks a delicate maple D, I wonder how C @Cjart little tree is getting on all these years later.

 

I would love to see an update or get his thoughts

That’s perfectly fine. I never know most of the time who is what gender on this site. Maples are loved by all! I still have this tree. I will post a picture of it as soon as I get outside and the light is better.

 

Here are some photos of my Miwa. It has been pretty trouble free. Taking the photos this rainy morning I noticed that it has some girdling roots showing up. Will have to keep an eye on that and also it is getting pretty big to be up against the fence like it is. May have to transplant it if I can find a place this fall. The first 4 photos are of the tree this morning and the last is from last June showing the reticulation at that time. Glad that someone else has this! By the way, some people say this is very close to the "Tiger Rose" acer palmatum but I don't know how true that is.

 

Totally agree C , gender ,race, age, orientation, etc etc, makes no difference in life, so definatly no difference in our friendly UBC community. We all love maples !! Perhaps a little too much at times though, lol.

I am not sure. I remember I chose it because of the way the leaves are darker around the lighter center but it looks like some of the new growth is reverting this morning. Do hostas do that I wonder.

 

yes ive read that they can revert back to the parent.

 

Oh yes they do C, if you want to stop the solid plain coloured leaves taking over, then remove them ASAP.

Update:

Here is 'Miwa' tonight. I had it in full morning sun until around 1pm. It did very well and stayed green, no burning. I might try more sun in the future.

 

It's very interesting to see photos of this variety as it grows. My 'Miwa' keeps going and growing against a fence. When I planted it it was about 1 ft. tall and it is now over 6 ft. I am wondering if I should move it to a more spacious place if I had one (l0l). Buchholz Nursery which is the supplier of many small jms at the nursery I buy from says:
"A compact upright deciduous form. Green leaves have subtle, but evident, reticulation which holds through summer. Spring growth can display yellow and pink tones as well. Name means "graceful beauty" in Japanese. Prefers sun/partial shade in well-drained soil. 6' tall x 3' wide in 10 years. Hardy to -20 degrees. USDA zone 5. Discovered and introduced by the Flora Wonder(tm) Collection of Buchholz Nursery."
So I guess it is growing faster than I though it would. It is in morning shade and afternoon to evening partial sun. Its leaves look a little less robust than yours Acerholic.

 

Little Miwa when it arrived at the end of September, and the colour change into October. Hoping it survives the winter and does well next year!

 

Miwa in spring, slower to wake up than many of my other maples... but definitely worth the wait:
