I've found a small amount of info on this cultivar but I'd like to know a lot more about its coloration, hardiness, growth habit, etc. If anyone has photos & info that they could post on this site that would be very helpful; especially SUMMER leaf color. What I've heard about Mikazuki sounds like I would want to add it to my landscape. Also does anyone know a mail order source for this cultivar? Thanks a lot.

    Ed,

I got mine from Sam at EastFork. You'll have to ask for it, as I don't think its listed in her catalogue.

I've had it a year and the summer coloration loses most of the pink/red tones and you're left with more light green/white between the veins. It does seem to hold its unusually strong reticulation more than other maples in this category. Shigitatsusawa seems to turn almost compltely green for me after a while. Mikazuki has strong veining that does not fade away.

    Sorry, no pics yet!

Here are a couple photos of Mikazuki which show the quick color change from spring to summer. The first photo was taken May 12, 2009, and the second was taken 5/19/09 of the same plant. It's unusual, and I especially like the vivid contrasting veining in this cultivar.

I love this cultivar. Mikazuki in Japanese is 'crescent moon'.
