17th August 2020, now three days of heavy rain and my trees are picking up at last. The tips of my Katsura lobes are turning red, I really hope it's not from leaf scorch. As I've had this tree for many years I don't think so!!
16th September 2020 and new growth is everywhere, due to this unseasonably warm weather. Not one that is considered much throughout the Summer, but I thought I would post it now at the end to show what it looks like. Just turning at the tips of the lobes.
2nd October 2020 and a brief break in tbe clouds gave some wonderful light on my Katsura. So took this to share.
19th October 2020 and my Katsura is going those deep smoky shades of red. Around 13ft tall and some new growth making it a little top heavy in appearance. A bit of aesthetic pruning needed I think!!!
28th October 2020 and a photo of my Katsura in morning sun. Lots of empty branches, but the effect of the greens and pinks made it look rather nice IMO.
9th March 2021 and I wanted to capture these buds on this thread to show people that this tree is a stunning cultivar even before the leaves appear.
March 18th 2021 and once again my Katsura decides to begin it's leafing out just as a hard frost is forecast for tomorrow night. Will it ever learn!!!
21st March 2021 and I know it's only been a few days, but this is just so pretty, I had to post it for posterity.
My Katsura planted along the woodland driveway at least 15 years ago. It still colors up beautifully even though it gets minimal direct sun. I imagine it’s so tall and “airy” due to competion with it’s native neighbors.
Good evening Plant horder and welcome to the maples forum. I think that Katsura is the most wonderful maple in early Spring and yours confirms that in every way. Thankyou for sharing it.
Totally understood that it is in Fall, but I do love the burnt orange colours now. I didn't make my point clear on my last posting, my mistake.
3rd April 2021 and this is the wonderful time of year for Katsura IMO , so I wanted to post this for @Plant horder, as Spring was discussed by me in previous conversations.. totally agree that Autumn is also a lovely time for this cultivar, but my favourite time for this one is now.
2nd May 2021 and the tangerine colours have now made their way for some lovely greens, with just that hint of what has just passed.
3rd May 2021 and I make no apologies for taking this one to share a few minutes ago after posting one yesterday. This is NOT just an early Spring maple. The greens are beautiful IMO.
26th May 2021 and my Katsura with Going Green and Beni Maiko close-by gives a lovely contrast of colours IMO.
Photo taken today in cloudy cold weather, the colours certainly brighten up the garden on a dull day! All leaves on the tree still at the lobes hanging down stage, and will probably remain like this for a while as colder weather has moved in. Seems particularly yellow this year, or maybe just caught it at the right stage? Plant was bought from Barthelemy's over 20 years ago as a one year graft.
4th April 2023 and my Katsura has sprung into life on a gorgeous Spring day with lots of bright sunshine.
