This plant is new in our garden, labeled Kasigi Oska, which we cannot find in English or Japanese literature. It looks a lot like a Shigatatsu Sawa offspring such as Amber Ghost, Ariadne or even Kasagiyama when grown in the shade. Is anyone familiar with the history of this plant?
Re: Acer palmatum "Kasigi Oska" I was so hoping YOU would provide some insight here (hoping this would be available in Europe). This is a really pretty Japanese Maple, but it does look a lot like the other Shigatatsu Sawa-type plants in my garden, so I keep wondering if it's properly named. I cannot find "Kasigi Oska" anywhere except on the plant's label, but the search for more information continues. I'm trying to find it's true identity, background, etc., and once I gather information that looks reliable, I'll post it. In the meantime, this is all I have on it, i.e., nothing.
Re: Acer palmatum "Kasigi Oska" Again, where did you get it? Looks like a form of Kasagiyama. Maybe someone imported a plant or scion wood from Japan? Mabye a form of Kasagiyama selected in in or near Osaka, Japan. But then again, it would be more common that the Osaka or Oska be put in front of the Kasagiyama like in Kansai koto no it. The colors could be a bit washed out due to the shade it is grown in and it might be no more than a mislabled known plant. Might be a name game as well. Those are always fun. Good luck with the research.
Re: Acer palmatum "Kasigi Oska" This cultivar is maddening. I've been unable to find any new information about it yet. It leafed out in late April dusty red, the leaves covered with short silvery hair. Four days later it had turned a peach/pink color. This photo was taken May 12, 2007 and shows the lightening of the color and the contrasting veins. I have several other plants in the Shigatatsu Sawa/Ghost clan, and at least in my garden Kasigi Oska has smaller leaves (about 1/3 smaller) than others in the clan of similar age.
