'Kasagiyama' in early summer mode. The strong veining of early spring has toned down now as the leaves have aged to a nice brick red. The leaves this year have been much bigger than I have ever seen them before, up to 12.5cm (5 inches) on some leaves, so the plant must be happy and enjoying life. I will see what size the second flush produces. First two pictures of upper leaves exposed to some afternoon sun, last picture of self shaded inner leaf.

Here's the same plant, relocated May 2022. Looks better already.

    update - November 2022

All looked hopeful in May but then this one came down with a bad case of powdery mildew this summer and it nearly defoliated. I give up - I'm digging it out in March - anybody want it? I can't afford to play nursemaid to this tree

Upper and lower leafs of mine at the moment, thought I may have to seek a replacement last year as it started to leaf out then just stopped, it then remained like that for the whole year, but all is good this season.

The picture in my previous post from last year doesn't really show what was wrong, the leafs in that picture were looking alright, however they never progressed beyond that and others didn't open properly at all.

Thanks, I know what you mean but I'm not sure if that was the case, I had three others do exactly the same, first ghost, grandma ghost and peaches and cream, all with the identical issue. They'd first leafed out in the greenhouse so I have a suspicion they didn't like the cold when I put them outside and sort of went into shock perhaps, anyway everything stayed outside this winter and they're all fine.

Tbh N, they all like to be outside in Winter so that they can be fully dormant and sleep well.
It's our protective nature that wants to molly cuddle them....
So glad all your reticulates are doing well this year.

28th April 2024 and a few weeks behind N @D97x7 but on its way at last. Only a very small tree atm, so 2025 should see it leaf out earlier.
