This photo was taken May 9, 2007 just as pink was fading from the leaf margins. The green of the leaves is different, having a slightly bluish hue.
My 'Kagiri nishiki' holds on to the pink color through Summer. It gets full sun all day long. Here is a picture I took a few days ago. A person I know that moved here from Japan described the translation as: Nishiki is a delicate and elaborate brocade. Nishiki means a lot to the Japanese culture because this fabric sounds elegant, expensive and is made of good quality. When I look at the leaves on my tree I am reminded of an elegant fabric.
