Dwarf or Semi-dwarf, deeply incised leaves. Origin Billy Schwartz, PA USA. Probably a witches broom. It has an eye catching shape. Photos taken this week.

The earliest spring photo was taken a couple of days ago and the other two are from last year the earlier 5/5/05 and the latest 6/5/05. I would agree, quite a nice plant, but it is better when fertilized little or none as it can send out some longer chutes that sould be clipped back as they disturb the form of the plant. Mine is also showing some overgrowth at the graft union, grafted about 8", and I would recommend a slightly larger understock and the lowest possible graft if the plant is to be grafted.

Posted these photos in another thread, so I figured I'd send them here too. Tree is around 5-6 years from graft. Really like this cultivar. Foliage shape is really similar to 'Kamagata' but the sping color is a nice mauve/pink. Received my original scions from it's founder Billy Schwartz of Green Mansions Nursery, who named it after his mother. Wonderful cultivar, way underutilized or offered.

Really interesting to know of its background, naming etc.It was certainly one that stood out as a bit different last autumn at Westonbirt. Thankyou for posting more pictures of it.

    To Scion Swapper:
Your Jerre Schwartz looks so beautiful, harmonious and bushy! Could you please tell a little about how you care for it, how do you prune it (?) I love the shape of your acer and would like to get some tips from you on how big it can be and if possible to keep it low and bushy just like yours. Thanks so much!

21st April 2021 and I wanted to show this today as a few have asked if this cultivar is worth growing in their garden. I'll let the photo speak for me.

25th May 2021 and I know that Charlie on Amazing Maples loves this one, so I thought I would show a close up of the colour of the leaves, as he tends to show from afar.

I had to do an "emergency repot" in July last year, remember ?

    acerp-jerre-schwartz02_200720a.jpg acerp-jerre-schwartz02_200720d.jpg

So rather early in the season (mid-June), I put it in full shade.

June 6th, and today, after more than 8 months in the shade :

3rd April 2022 and my Jerre Schwartz is starting to leaf out. I have it well protected against these awful overnight frosts.

Yes, it was very early, though not in a particularly protected place.

Surprisingly robust my Jerre! Been pain free since he went in the border, always nice and full.
