Inspite of the wettest, dullest, windy summer we can ever remember, I am really pleased with the beautiful pre-autumn colour of our Acer palmatum Earthfire. It was bought from Chris Pattison's excellent nursery at Pendock, Gloucestershire, U.K on 13th November 2007.
Re: Acer palmatum Earthfire Was it really a Summer???? ;o)) On the positive side, you did not risk a house pipe ban!! Nice cultivar, I've never heard of it, do you know if it is a Pattison's selection? Gomero Gomero
Hi Gomero. Chris Pattison grafts and grows Acers etc. I don't think he does any selecting. Looking in the RHS Plant Finder 2008-2009, Acer p. Earthfire is listed as a new plant entry, with only 2 nurseries selling it. One is Chris Pattison the other is Hinton Hayes of Packhorse Farm nursery,Tansley, Matlock ,Derbyshire. I know that he specialises in Acers, again he does his own grafting.Sorry, can't help further. Definitely didn't need a hosepipe this year!! Garden like a bog. Lost several "treasures" due to the waterlogged ground. Machen even got a small mention on the national news following a flash flood on 5th Sept!! Luddite
Hi there are so many beautiful cultivar, but is there anyone who can send it to America, or can buy Earthfoire and others listed in UBC in North America. Thanks. P
Probably not a tree for everyone since it has kind of an akward presence but it does have some great colors.
