This one is not encountered that often as far as I can tell. It is said to have originated as a variegated sport from 'Deshojo' and for me it has the Deshojo-like bright spring colouration followed by the variegation which is subtle and becomes more noticeable when the leaves green out. It is a variegation of leaf portions rather than a sprinkle type. In his book Yano states "the variegation is not showy". I bought mine in 2013 as a young graft and have been slowly growing it on since then. It was repotted this year so I am hoping for a good spring display next year. I will add a few pictures that I took throughout this year but unfortunately I do not have one of the spring flush in full effect so that will have to wait till spring 2022. Starting a new post as previous one getting long, we are now moving into July and the stable summer period. Also going to show some pictures from September. It had been in too much shade really in summer after the tree canopy filled in above so when I moved it to more sun in September it finally extended a few new shoots with bright colour akin to that of spring. I don't understand why, but the spring foliage is much less bright than usual this spring. More of a brownish red, slightly purple. In normal years I would describe it as slightly less bright than 'Shindeshojo' but this year it is nowhere near. It was repotted last year, maybe that is a factor?...doubtful as the 'Pixie' and 'Alpine Surprise' next to it were also repotted and are much brighter. Picture from my phone below is not great but is good enough to illustrate the point.
Here are a couple of pics that capture the fall colour very well, probably making the variegation more showy by creating a greater contrast. November 30th 2022:
