I have been looking for the right acer palmatum for my yard zone 9b. This will be planted under the canopy of a mature Fruitless Mulberry so I really don't want it be much more than 6 - 8 feet at maturity. I have been looking at the Butterfly and am confused because every site gives different heights ranging from 5-6' to 10' and I saw a picture posted in this forum from NELRAN in June of 2007 showing a Butterfly topping the roof of the house. Are there drastic differences in the characteristics of these trees based on the nursery they come from? Can anyone recommend an upright tree that will stay around 6'?

Thanks for you suggestion. I talked to a local nursery and yesterday decided (with much distress over the eventual height) on two beni schichi henge and one Sherwood Flame.
