Acer 'Johin'

    Is Acer 'Johin' a very new cultivar? I don't find it in my 3 maple I'd books. But I find it in the forestfarm catalog.
    Is it a cross btwn palmatum and shirasawanum?

    A qualified yes to both questions: Johin is fairly new (ten years or so on the market?) and widely suspected (but not proven) to be a hybrid of the two species mentioned. There's some more info in this thread: Acer shirasawanum 'Johin'
