Acer japonicum 'Vitifolium'

11th August 2020 and the heatwave continues, trying to update as many as I can as requested, even if they are not looking too good. Important to do this I feel.
Even more new growth on my Vitifolium and looks like more to come.

30th August 2020 and it is definitely getting colder. My maples are very happy now that the Summer heat has passed. They are all enjoying the early morning sun.
The reds are appearing everywhere now. And still, some new growth. Very strange but interesting at the same time.

 

1st September 2020 and the very first Autumn dew arrives after a rather cold night.

 

12th September 2020 and believe it or not, new growth is everywhere in my garden together with Autumn colours emerging. Temperatures of 31°C expected in a couple of days.
I was asked yesterday if my Vitifolium was still producing new leaves, so here it is.

 

20th September 2020 and new growth plus some strange colouring on my maples now. More and more new shoots on my Vitifolium.

 

29th September 2020 and yet more Spring growth on my Vitifolium.

 

4th October 2020 and another new shoot in the very heavy rain on my Vitifolium.

 

18th October 2020 and my Vitifolium is brightening up my garden. Won't last long so I intend to sit outside for as long as I can to enjoy.

 

16th February 2021 and the diary begins for another year. Not much yet, but the buds are in their way.

 

18th March 2021 and the longer daylight days and slightly warmer feel has made my Vitifolium start to burst into life.

 

My Vitifolium this morning. Blooming for the first time since I grafted it a few years ago.

 

And nicely protected Kyle, worth all the effort, now for a good season.

 

What a difference a few days makes at this time of the year, nowhere near Keith's @kgeezy20, but getting there at last.

 

10th April 2021 and even after -7°C a few nights ago with the hardest Spring frost in decades, here is my Vitifolium this morning. Tough little trees eh!!

17th September 2021 and what better to cheer me up than to see my Vitifolium this morning covered in Autumn dew.

 

Update: Seem to be growing well and putting out new growth. Can't wait until fall colors start.

 

I got really nice colors from 'Vitifolium' this year. It did very well for its first year in the ground. Ready to see what next year brings :)

November 12th - before the storm

 

5th April 2022 and my Vitifolium was hit hard by the bad frosts a few days ago. So much new growth is limp, but here lower down it has escaped the cold.

 

24th April 2022 and such a difference in my Vitifolium now. This has such an interesting leaf. I find it is one that literally grows on you.

 

28th May 2022 and over a month on since my last posting, and my Vitifolium is a lovely shade of green on those large leaves.
