I was hoping someone could help me understand what the Acer Japonicum OUDENBOSCH variety of maple is. It appears that it is a Acer japonicum ACONITIFOLIUM but Guy Maillot website store lists the two separately. Additionally has anyone heard of a Acer Japonicum FILIFORMIS (Filiforme)? Thanks
I don't know 'Oudenbosch' personally, but according to the Maillot website the leaves are slightly more sharply cut than Aconitifolium, and the fall colors are different: Aconitifolium finishes deep red, not yellow. Oudenbosch is not listed in either the World Checklist or MOW, so you'd have to ask M. Maillot where it comes from. 'Filiforme' or 'Filiformis' is listed in both the above documents, and described in MOW: "Filiforme, Iseli Nursery 1990, Boring, Oregon, USA. A small, treelike shrub, similar to Aconitifolium but with smaller, fewer-lobed leaves. Autumn color scarlet. This cultivar is mentioned only in the 1990 catalog of the Iseli Nursery, where it is spelled "Filiformis." Both of these Latin cultivar names are illegitimate as they were published after 1 January 1959. Zone 5." HTH -E
