Mine is also a plant from Esveld, and I agree: the red petioles and ribs make this very showy. It is growing very enthusiastically from a whip, with bright red young leaves. Hopefully flowers next year... Thanks for the picture Alex! -E
Another Section Palmata, Series Sinensia A. campbellii relation from SE Asia (China, in this case). Sounds like it needs care in placement and will not be for everyone. Their book Maples for Gardens says "It is of botanical interest but is not a very successful plant in cultivaton. Its leaves tend to shrivel in the sun and there is almost no fall color"
Hey D, Nice! Looks quite different from mine, which got pretty big but then died way back in the drought of 22. Still alive, but stopped flowering for now. Still, the flowers have been confirmed as correct. Now you have to go in Spring and get some flower pictures. Should be upright and extremely hirsute. Cheers, -E
Hey E. I found this one a few years ago and just now running back into it. I will try to get back in the spring to see if it flowers. Hopefully I can get a few good pics to compare.
