Thought I would share a picture of my Burgundy Jewel from last season. This is an amazing new introduction from Talon Buchholz, through our wonderful Sam the Maple Lady. Hope you enjoy, and I hope others will grab this one up. John S.

I went to a garden centre yesterdy to buy "sequestrene", I saw a beautiful one and just couldn't resist. It was just labelled "Erable du Japon", 'Burgundy Jewel".

So I thought it may have been a cultivar of japonicum or shirasawanum, but back home I used the site's search engine and found out that it's circinatum. My first one. The colours are outstanding, from golden to deep red, and dark green for the bottom leaves.

I read that A. circinatum is the only maple in the Palmata section from America, and that the branches easily air-layer themselves when they touch the ground.
