D, you are making all of us this side of the pond so very jealous. That is a beauty without a shadow of a doubt.

I don't mean to D. It is a eye catcher. I hope it grow well for me.

Yes, quite interesting, I've never seen one before. For a long time, I wasn't even aware that there were buergerianum cultivars...
It must show a striking contrast with red or green-leafed maples.

Hey @Acerholic if it makes you feel any better, it's a terrible grower for me. I've been nursing along my little one for years now. ;)

I believe 'Hana chiru sato' is meant to be identical, I've heard a story about a second grower introducing 'Wakoh nishiki' with a different name in an effort to cash in. Can't remember where the story comes from though. Yano lists them both separately. 'Hana chiru sato' from 1960, discovered by Hayashida, and the cultivar registered with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries [!] though presumably not with the ICRA. 'Wakoh nishiki' is from 1975. The checklist also has them as different cultivars, so...

@NJACER also told me the same thing. That's why I made the point of saying, "I hope it grow well for me". He told me 'Hana chiru sato' is a much better grower.

Hi Alex, along with Ed's tree, yours is the best I've ever come across. There must be others somewhere!

For me, the differences between the two leaves you picture aren't obvious, one has more chlorophyll but that could be down to environment. Your mileage may vary! Cheers, -E
