Does anyone know the best time of year to transplant a Acacia tree. I live in the West Kootenays, so the weather is quite cool now.

True Acacia will not survive winter in the cold climate of West Kootenays. Many not taking temps below -8 centigrade (or even less) depending on species.

    Cheers, LPN.

Hi Wayne--you might be talking about robinia, leaves are kinda reminiscent of acacia but hardy here.

Anyway, moving a tree...down on the coast I would still move my deciduous trees, but I'm thinking you're that much colder than us and would be easier on the tree to do it as spring approaches. Thinking is that soil temps have to allow some root action, or it will just be a waste to move the tree now compared to after the winter...you can do it now, but the tree will just be rocking in the wind and suffer a bit more by comparison...my take anyway.
