My son is an avid gardener in Northern California. He has this amazing plant (see attachments) growing in his back yard but has not been able to find anyone who can identify it. Does anyone out there have a clue? Thank you so much! Tova
Tova--the plant is Fascicularia pitcairnifolia. This relative of the pineapple from coastal Chile is unusually hardy for the bromeliad family. We can even grow it further north here but have to really protect it from winter wet. Northern California is probably an ideal place for it! Glen
It is, isn't it. My son originally thought he was getting a visit from Seymour's Plant (Little Shop of Horrors!). For your information, the plant is in San Francisco approximately 4 blocks from the ocean. Thought this might help in understanding why/how it got to radiant! Thank you all for your kind help. Tova.
Very mild climate there, seldom hot nor cold. Record lows in most big, coastal Californian cities barely below freezing.
