I need to find out what kind of tree this is. There seems to be more than one trunk, or that it is divided. The berries on the tree are pretty hard and have yellow insides and dark red/purple outsides. You can see the leaves in the picture. There are also thorns on the branches. The branches also feel a little wax-like. Sorry about the terrible picture. I only had my phone with me at the time. I will probably get some better pictures later today.
Yes: black hawthorn. Currently multiple species have been published for this group. The ones here on the west side are now considered to consist of C. douglasii and C. suksdorfii. Hawthorn specialist J.B. Phipps came up with several more after a trip through eastern WA, mentioned them in his Timber Press book Hawthorns and Medlars. Botanical descriptions were to follow, after which taxonomists would or would not "buy" the new combinations. Do not know current status.
