If you need one more plant, try experimenting with a small cutting and getting it to root under glass out of the sun. With your green thumb Tugo, you are bound to have success.

I would google how to propagate these plants and follow the instructions on rooting cuttings, if this is in fact an option. Then you can make as many plants as you want! I root shrub cuttings all the time.

Need some body to propagate me also:)) I can't finish half of my to do list, days are too short. Or getting cloned ?

I must say in RSA we ( and friends landscapers) moved the Cycads like NO PROBLEM as the roots are very shallow like palms NEVER had a problem ..
Some make babies on the side you can then wait till they look quite big than scrape away the earth along the mothers stem and then CUT them off
they have like bulp like root at first .. I grew many of them as I was lucky to have several moms...Some never made babies( maybe they were the dads :-)
Naturally I don't know how they respond in UK but in RSA they also lost leaves on the bottom . Don't be afraid the simply cut them off clip them short
like 1/2 to 1 inch left of the leaf to be cut as long as they have new leaves growing on the top. If there in no leaf growing then something is wrong
especially they grow VERY slow mine grew stems tall about 2 feet tall and close to one foot wide in 10 years !!

 

Well even it was :-) I thought i was soooo funny. Now I need to go fertilize. haha...Shear me ... keep your mind ABOVE the Kale. haha.

 

I took 24 years to fruit ...haha

 

The English is good tugo, someone to propagate you as in "clone" you. Now if you had said to "pollinate" you, that would be a different thing.

Oh, yes I don't mind sex jokes, I just didn't know what you meant by 'propagate'. There's so many different meanings with those Latin words, I often get lost! Propagation is usually by natural means and not cloning, which is why I got confused. My mind is not normally on those things, Vic, but from time to time it pops up. :P

I know what you mean Vic as in Mexico we don't have that problem with the roots as Cycads grow in the "Wild" and rarely get moved about. The problem in the UK is that all the trees are imported from Europe, usually Spain or Italy and a few from Malta. I have 3 different species now. They always arrive in the UK in pots and are totally pot bound, the pots are nearly always to small for the Cycad in them, if you try to fish out the rots they are so delicate they break as they have intertwined on themselves inwardly, then when you repot them into something more adequate they don't always like the move. Thats what I think the problem has been with my large Cycad. My large one has just about lost all its fronds so I may cut the rest of and wait for it to flush as the trunk is very healthy. I'd hate to lose it as for the size of it it must be a good 20 or 30 years old as they grow so painfully slowly. I've read about them losing all their fronds and then coming back into "life" again.

I really like those Hydreangas of yours I must try and get some seeds of that variety and try them out.

Hollyerry how are your Lillies coming along. I have finally taken some more fotos of mine. you may have to enlarge some of them to see the flowers properly.

thugo Here are some pics of the brushed from the RED BARON but these were out a whole winter . If you look clearly there is still ONE little ball ( thought that was the seeds) but now I wonder as I planted all of the from the brushes as I wanted to make a whole border ....and it grew near YOUR POND :-) haha but here NOTHING so now I wonder if any specialist may tell me maybe the brush bristels are the seeds I DO NOT KNOW but I wanna know fast.
I add some flowers that grew in cracks on a drive way of a friend and she wanted them OUT .. I adored them so scarped them out and replanted. DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT IS maybe a weed but then its pretty or some flower. the stems are very hardy and like candles straight up the flowers are very bright delicate and the whole thing has such a lovely transparency. Maybe some specialist will tell me ERIC ????do you know ??? thanks

and I add some of my Yukkas at night after watering and YES i like these water drop effects :-)they are so Kitch haha

 

Lovely flowers Nat.. One of my best friends is a Basket specialist near London her name is Sue she makes basket and the fillers ...would have to ask her where she is a lovely person and they live in a lovely redone Barn. If I show pics of what monster Cyclades you can get at 5000$ in South Africa you die :-) Must search for the pics . Along the highway around Jo burg there is a man who has a nursery his grand gran father started collecting them in the 1800s he has some that are like 15m tall at +- 15.000$ a piece with VERY special licences he sells off the family hairloom and lives VERY WELL of that in a country where a full loaf of bread is 1$ :-)...and houses go from 25.000$ upwards ...

I have a new new lily although only one, it is an oriental variety, and it is just beginning to open up this morning! I will take a shot when it opens up fully. It is a soft pink and it is breathtaking. I am so pleased because I ordered the oriental lilies from a mail order last November, and I was late planting them. It's my very first time ever growing an oriental type - so excited.

Thanks Vic, your R.Baron brush/seed pictures helped me clearly that I have collected the seeds of some other weed, that grow among the leaves of RçBaron. My plant since 2 years did not show up any thing like the brushes you show. May be this autumn. Thanks again.

 

Hey GP, soak your seedlings with water if you're worried about the fert... It saved one of my peppers once.

 

I am so proud of my basjoo banana pup, I am posting these shots everywhere! Just took them a 1/2 hour ago. I had this pup outside but brought it back in, and I am enjoying having it so close by.

My plan is to grow it inside and put it out next Spring - then I will see bananas! Also I had one in my lily garden but I dug it up and put it in a pot by the back door, in full sun. I will bring it inside before frost. It will be interesting to see how one grows inside compared to the one grown outside. Both are in containers but may get put in the earth next spring.

Anyway, here is one of the pups now...
