Hello, I have noticed these peculiar grey oblong shaped growths on the the lemon tree while wiping the leaves and branches. I have been trying to bring the tree back to life after a major aphid infestation. The tree lost all of leaves in winter but now its started coming back to life along with new aphids! Has anyone seen before those slug-look alike growths on a branches before? They look quite alienish to me, lol I have attached a link to a big size of the photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bonasforza/4484440319/ (link updated :) Thank you!
The link didn't work but if IMG_1152 and IMG_1153 are images of the pest then you're dealing with scale. Both this and the aphids can be treated using insecticidal soap. Physically remove the adult scale prior to treatment, usually with an alcohol wipe. Apply the soap spray to all plant surfaces. Repeat the treatment every 7-10 days until the pests are gone. Note that juvenile scale cannot be seen. The telltale sign of their presence is the appearance of sticky honeydew on leaf surfaces.
Thank you! I'm really freaked out, this is an actual insect?! Oh my, those are some different looking creatures.
