I had a lot of different seeds this year so I made a mix of damp 50% sand and 50% peat moss. I soaked them in hot water for a day or two then I dried them a bit before I dusted them with Captan. I then packed the bottom of the bags with the soiless mix, placed the seeds on top and then I packed on some more sand/peat. My wife removed them from the frig to make room for some other stuff and the results were that the soil mix was tumbled, this means that the Captan(anti-fungal) is no longer in contact with the seeds, so do I put some more Captan in the bags? I have about two to three cups of soil in the eight different bags. I think I am going to need a bigger refrigerator, I wish I could find one with out a freezer.
When are you planning to plant them out? Fungal attacks are really only a worry when the seeds have germinated. The sprouts can be killed by fungus when very young (damping off). You can add more of the dust when you take them out of the fridge and plant them.
If the wife needs the fridge you could always allow the seeds to overwinter outside in a seed bed as mother nature intended When spring comes and the weather begins to warm up you could have a very pleasant surprise
I will plant them in a 2 foot raised bed, I have not decide as to the growing medium. I my be about the same as the fifty fifty mix I made for the seed. I would put them outside but I don't think it is cold enough, we have only one or to light freezes so far this year, and it has been in the upper sixties up until this week. Some plants have not even dropped all their leaves yet. Our winter will be over in six weeks so the only real winter is in the frig. East Coast Gulf Stream El Niño= mild winters hot summers = global warming = the only issue that counts thanks for relieving my anxiety
