Hi, I purchased a lemon tree which had a bloom on it almost four years ago. first I planted it in the shade, not enough sun, then I moved it to the sunniest area and give it plenty of water. The tree is 6 feet high now....still not a single bloom. I have been told it's a "male", others have said I have to "beat" it with a broom....I have tried fertilizer, what is wrong with this tree. I would love to see a least one lemon before I move away.....trying to grow tropical in Puerto Rico. Lorraine Wright
The male suggestion was on the same level as the one to beat it with a broom. There is something about the growing conditions it had before you bought it that was different from what it experienced since then: that's all I can offer.
citric feed I had a similar problem with an orange tree, so i dont know if it will help with a lemon but it worth a try, after loads of effort i used a fertalizer specificallyfor citric fruits and in a drip feeder(which i thought was a con but i was desparate so i bought it just incase) and within 2 weeks i had flowers, ive used this since and it never fails.
Lorrine, do you know if the lemon tree is a seedling, a rooted cutting or a grafted tree? Have you been pruning the tree (a real no no if you want fruit)? Lastly there is no such thing as a male or female citrus tree, your friend who told you it was a male, does not understand much about citrus. - Millet
