I came across this tree in front of a building and always loved how it changed colored. But now it has a cluster of red berries on it! I love to know what type of tree this is and if it maybe be harmful to animals as I love to get a plant like this! Thank you for your time and attached image of so tree is on this post :) Thanks again for any help!
It resembles Sorbus (Mountain Ash), but I am not sure. Mountain Ash is beneficial to wildlife, particularly birds and insects. I do not know which species would grow well where you are. What part of Texas are you in?
Not a Sorbus, they don't have bright red berry stems, and do have a different berry cluster structure, and a rather larger calyx remains at the tip of the berry. I'd say something in the family Anacardiaceae, maybe Schinus? Compare Schinus terebinthifolius: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3f/Schinus_terebinthifolius_fruits.JPG http://toptropicals.com/pics/garden/m1/bel/schinus_terebinthifolius2669a.jpg
I noticed those things too, but couldn't think of anything else -- good call on Sumac family. This page has a picture of a fruit cluster of the species you mention, but the berry stems are green, not red. Incidentally, any Schinus species in Texas are not native and do have poisonous berries. Alternatives one might plant in Texas: Cornus elliptica (Dogwood) or Prunus mexicana (Mexican Plum).
I live in South Texas by San Antonio :) I hope that helps! I can also post more images if this one isn't helpful.
Good call, I'd agree with that on checking pics (never seen it in fruit myself before) Example pic: http://www.esc.nsw.gov.au/Weeds/Images/trees/Pistacia chinensis fruits.jpg
