I am peparing the bed about 8 by 12 ft. The bed was rototilld, a layer of compost added, and a sprinle of NPK fertilizer was added and rotilled in. Tomorow the bed will be covered with wood chips about three inches. In October marked rows will be scraped and the garlic will be planted about 100 plants. The garlic plants push though th mulch with no difficulty.

The boards keep mulch off the garlic row until planted when they will be removed. The cloves, bulbils and rounds will cling to the soil when planted. The mulch is mostly for moisture retention and a bit o Winter protection. The plants come up through the mulch with no diiculty in the Spring.
