7 year orchid???

    Hi, Can anyone help identify this orchid, which I got from a friend who says it blooms once every 7 years! Sounds wierd! Thanks.

    Probably a dendrobium. Should bloom every year. Sounds like friend heard about orchids raised from seed taking seven years to get big enough to bloom (a representative, rather than invariable figure) and thought that meant all orchids bloom on a seven year cycle. If yours not blooming every year on mature canes then climate or culture not suitable in some way.

    Dendrobiums are all tropical but some like it cooler than others.
