Just saw a story on PBS' Newshour on the recently opened California Academy of Sciences (San Francisco). Whoa nelly! What a joint! Among its other myriad aspects, this institution features a 4-story rainforest, created within a 90-foot diameter glass dome. In this environment live 1600 animals, neighbors to a vast variety of plant life. This latter includes Brazilian beautyleaf, West Indies mahogany, Theobrama cacao, and scads of orchids and bromeliads. A cast of thousands---literally! Run an eye over the web site: http://www.calacademy.org/academy/exhibits/rainforest/
Neat! I'm glad to see that public gardens are finally getting around to creating a truly mixed tropical environment...
