Wonderful photos, very clear text. Thanks for the link. Flickr user Ben Caledonia has posted several excellent photos of Rhizophoraceae in New Caledonia: Search: rhizophora | Flickr
I had no idea Brazil nut trees were so important to cooling the Amazon (or that they were so tall). Thanks for sharing this informative (and visually stunning) link.
I just saw this thread and firstly I would like to say that I love trees and plants. But the people of Brazil who are cutting down the rainforests do need to feed their families. David Attenborough has said very recently that world powers need to seriously look at population control. Less mouths to feed and sustain means less trees cut down, hence a better environment for those living on this planet. I am aware that big businesses want more people as that means more customers. So who is controlling the puppet strings????? It is a contentious subject I know, but IMHO it's the only way for the future of all living things, to sort one thing out before the other. The super trees will then be able to do their bit for our wonderful planet earth. D
