South Sound Mushroom Club Tuesday, September 19th at 7 PM at our usual meeting spot: Capital Vision Church (1775 Yew Ave NE, Olympia, WA). Doors open at 6:45 PM. Free and open to the public. Speakers: HART Team members Christian Johnson, Rachel Ballou and others "Hericium Analysis Research Team (HART) presents our undergraduate research conducted at The Evergreen State College, comparing and contrasting the cultivation, extraction, and chemical analysis of the fungi Hericium erinaceus (lion’s mane) and its conifer loving cousin: Hericium abietis (bear’s head). Our hypothesis suggests that the vastly understudied H. abietis produces similar profiles of “erinacine” compounds as the commonly used medicinal fungus: H. erinaceus (lion’s mane). We specifically target Erinacine A in our analysis. This bioactive compound is confirmed in many studies as anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor; as well as particularly stimulating biosynthesis of Nerve Growth Factor, which aids in neuroprotection and neurogenesis. Join us and learn about how these fungi in your local ecosystems and supplement stores can improve neurological function and psycho-social wellbeing!"
