Pix are 2 separate shrubs in my wild, overgrown, very mature, neglected garden in Kaiserslautern, Germany. They are definitely different from each other, but are they related? Are they worth saving, or like the holly and lilac, just spreading themselves
beyond the realm of worthwhile? The first shows the 1" long leaves in the clusters all along the branch and a couple berries, the second and third pic are the same plant, immediately adjacent to the first, with the alternating leaf pattern and branching.

All pictures show Cotoneaster. The one with the dark red, oval fruits is C. divaricatus. Cotoneasters are somewhat weedy but they are good garden plants that provide great winter interest.
