Hello, All! I just moved to a new house in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and am lucky enough to have discovered 2 types of hazelnut in my backyard. I have attached pix, and I'm hoping someone can give me the cultivars/varieties of what I've got. I'm not sure how the pix will load, but I'm uploading the pic of the smaller variety in a red bowl, and I've put a branch showing the 'catkins' and the leafy case. The larger nut in a terra-cotta colored bucket also has a single casing, (usually in 3's and 4's), and a separate pic of the branch with the 'catkins' and one with the hazelnut on-branch. If anyone knows a good link to drying/preparing them, I'd love that, too!
