    The tomatoes get a pail of rainwater from the roof about every five days. The water is transported in a wheelbarrow, with a milk carton as a baffle to minimize wave spilling.I find this is more efficient than hose watering.The tomatoes appear to thrive on this treatment.Two wheelbarrows is sufficient water.

    I like the baffle @Durgan and watering with rain water gives the best results for ALL plants everytime, especially taste. My wife and I have carried out rain water harvesting for over 30 years now and our plants have reaped the rewards like yours.
