It has been dry for about ten days. Today there was a pleasant rain most welcome. I have been watering selectively the roots by pail but this at best is a stopgap.

I have no diseases and absolutely no bugs, almost a Silent Spring. It is not normal by any means. I have not one Colorado Potato Bug. The city (Brantford,ON) sprays the roads for ice in the Winter using beet juice. I suspect is is the killer of snails and earthworms and many other insects. There is not an earthworm on any of the walking trails and they use to be covered after a rain.
