    They do ripen after being picked. I have bought ones that go from greenish at the ends and hard to yellow and juicy within two or three days on my kitchen counter. Maybe they have to be close to ripe to do that.

    Apparently peaches get soft but do not ripen after being picked, whatever that means. An tree ripened peach is a food of the Gods. They cannot be tree ripened unless picked personally, since they are a soft fruit and would bruise too much for shipping.
