One was dug abut a week ago and the total weight from four plants was about 15 pounds. Good quality. They are dried a bit and stored in the root cellar and used as required.
What your sweet potato uppers look like, when you start to harvest them? I try to keep my sweet potatoes in the ground as long as possible. I dig them out after uppers are gone (by frost, by pest damage or by natural yellowing and dropping the leaves because of maturing). Edit: I saw the photos on the link above now, that gave me an answer.
To elaborate, I dig a good size potato out then harvest usually sometime in September. I have found keeping the vegetation down by not using excessive nitrogen. One year I had tops and small tubers. The size is great this year. They keep well in the root cellar.
