First of the season asparagus was harvested. One half pound was cut. The bed is permanent about 8 feet by 5 feet, and was planted with 11 crowns of Guelph Millennium about 8 years ago. It will produce harvestable shoots around 12 pounds over about 4 weeks.

One point five pounds (1.5) of fresh asparagus was cut today. The shoots are of excellent quality. Some of the thinner stalks are allowed to grow. Production has been 9.5 pounds since 10 May to 27 May, seventeen days. The bed is still producing strong shoots.

The asparagus is finished for the season. The shoots will now be allowed to fern out to produce spears for the 2017 season. A total of 15.5 pounds was obtained from this bed from 10 of May to the 10 of June 2016.
