1 Backyard Plant ID

    Here are some pics of a plant in my backyard, the red bumps on the petioles are part of the plant. The leaves are actually shiny when young (as seen in the pics), but they lose the glossyness as they mature. Thanks!

    Elm seedlings? Is there a big elm tree near your house?

    Not elm, elm leaves don't have petioles iirc. Definitly looks like cherry leaves/branches, thanks Michael F, I wonder who planted it :P

    Probably bird-sown, unless someone has been 'ptwee-ing' cherry stones in the garden!

    Haha, are the red bump/dots on the petioles common? Or is it a specific var., or what?

    Sweet cherry is naturalized to the point of weediness out here.

    If there is a cherry tree nearby, it can also be a root sucker.
