I found nice shrub in my neighbourhood, and I like to know the name of it Can anyone tell by these pictures?
Note that this is considered an invasive species in southern Ontario (of the highest threat to local ecosystems): Invasive Exotic Species Ranking in Ontario (PDF)
Thank you for info. I wonder what that really means to me. I am a little confused because they are planned by the city near streets. I was going to buy them if I can, and plant them in my backyard. Is it really bad idea in this circumstance? Thank you in advance kom
Not in terms of prioritizing, no - I could list a few resources, though: http://www.geog.ubc.ca/~brian/florae/invasives.html http://www.invasiveplantcouncilbc.ca/ http://www.agf.gov.bc.ca/cropprot/invasiveplant.htm
I'd avoid it - and I'm not certain why the city would be planting those - perhaps they are a closely related species? City of Toronto Parks and Rec recommends avoiding them, too: Controlling Invasive Plants That being said, there are many species of honeysuckles that aren't invasive. A responsible nursery can help guide you to finding one that is right for you and for the native plants and animals in your area (note that it doesn't necessarily have to be a native honeysuckle, but one that won't impact the local flora and fauna negatively).
