I bought this house with an amazingly productive cherry tree.I don't know the variety, but I'm worried about the fungus on the bark.
What kind is it and should I treat it in some way?
    Thanks

I can not ID the fungus, but I do know fungus grows from too much moisture. Possibly your sprinklers are watering the trunk of the tree? If that is the case stop take corrective measures on the sprinklers. I BELIEVE (not 100% positive) that once the moisture is under control than the fungus will stop. No moisture = no fungus.

    Good luck!

Looks like a sweet cherry with a problem. Sweet cherries often have problems. The Extension office here put out an entire booklet called 'Why Cherry Trees Die.'
