Japanese maple shrub

  1. Help! Planted a 4 foot "shrub" on the north side of the house late fall. Looked great until a week or two ago and now is dropping green leaves and it looks like it's scorched on all of the tips! Think it's DYING!

Has it had regular water? Even a shrub on the north side of the house needs water, especially in its first few years. Or if it's gotten too much water, look for root rot.

    Check the planting depth

All too often people plant their Japanese Maples too deep. Check and be sure that the top most roots, coming off of the trunk (the crown), is not covered with more than about 1/4 inch of soil. If it is too deep replant it higher. If drainage is not good in this location replant it higher.
