I have two Pygmy Date Palms in the front of my house. Both are at least 10 years old. One is as green as can be and the other is light green, yellow and brown. I have tried palm fertilize, Epson salt with no results. I have attached two pictures. The first is the health one and the second is my sickly one. Any Ideas or help is appreciated.

i think that you may have to use a fertilizer with more minerals in it.. there is a certain deficiantcy tat casues yelloowing of the leaves.. conmtact ur local nursery and ask them. Also can i ask how tall the one one the left is ( the non sickly one). Also the leaves on these trees are usually a lemon/lime green

The healthy one is about 4 ft tall and my problem child is about 5 ft. I will try fertilize again. But I have used a fertilize that is made for palms with no real results. Thanks for your reply.

it depends ont he fertilizer you used... you may have a deficiency of only one or a fe kinds. I know that there is one that causes this type of leaf discolouration. My final advice would be to contact your local nursury. ( you have alot down there in florida) and serch on the web for palm tree diseases or palm tree leaf discolouration.

    good luck

The healthiest specimen of Phoenix roebelenii have rich dark green leaves as seen in the first photo.

    Cheers, LPN.

it also depends on where the seed was collected.. i have seen healthy examples in my local conservatory and the leaves were a bright lemon/ lime green... it could have also been a variation on the roebelleni but the trunk is exactlyt he same as the one s in the pics

Curious as to something....maybe I am just missing what you are saying in your post, but how can the green one be 4 ft tall? It is over the roof!

Also I have read that these guys top out at around 6-8 feet. Clearly, from your photos that info is wrong! (Unless it was for a colder zone than Florida.)

I presume he means the top of the stem, rather than the top of the leaves.

Not sure, it probably varies from person to person.
