The location of where you grew up would be helpful, to narrow down the possibilities.

 

Well, that's a bit of a problem because my family did a LOT of travelling when I was small! But I primarily grew up in Colorado in the US and we did spend time somewhere near Russia (I think it was the Ukraine)

may be what we call "chene cork" in France ? you know the tree from which we take the bark to close wine bottles. it matches the colors, and texture of bark...
