What is this plant? I realise the photos are not great quality, but I will take some better ones in the morning, as I need better light. The stem of each leaf is about five feet or more, leaves are the length of an adult arm and glossy. they also seem to grow like a fan. It's had a bit of a rough life, I'm hoping to give it a happy home. (or make better use of the pot )
    Thanks

I am not so sure that it is a bird of paradise, you may want to research birds of paradise plants to see if it is in fact in the family of brid of paradise. Your plant is definitley a relative of the banana tree though :)
