Can anyone identify the picture in the attached file? It grew overnight after a very heavy rain in a damp location to begin with. It has a slimy feel and seems to be covered in a mucus substance. Sure has a beautiful color but I am not sure if it is safe around my dog or for that matter myself. I am located in Southwest Florida and in the middle of a very wet rainy season. The object measures approximately 5X3X1 inches. Thanks for all your help.

Its probably a slime mold and probably harmless. I can't find anything in my books describing a blue slime mold, though. Perhaps someone who has seen this before will comment.

Thanks for the compliment........I tried to take a good shot to make the "whatever" easier to identify. Maybe some kind of space alien has invaded my garden in Florida. If it is, why me?? If it isn't, then what the heck is it?
