what to Plant in Richmond

Discussion in 'Outdoor Gardening in the Pacific Northwest' started by Bog man Matt, Mar 1, 2004.

  1. I am building a house in Richmond. The lot is very close to the Richmond Nature park. http://www.geog.ubc.ca/courses/klink/g448/2000/rnp/1999veg.pdf

I will have a very large lot with a south-west facing yard. I'd like to plant native species, hopefully some of which are fast growing.

    Any recommendations?

    native plants

    BogManMatt,

I have had great luck with two books, Gardening with Native Plants of the Pacific Northwest (Kruckenberg) and Native Plants in the Coastal Garden (Pettinger, Costanzo). They have good information about choosing plants for site conditions, plant communities, and propagation. The second one has a list of nurseries that specialize in natives.

    Good luck!
